Nursing Homes

A nursing home provides room and board to at least two individuals who are not related by marriage or by blood to the administrator. A nursing home community provides its occupants with 24-hour care by registered nurses. These nurses provide healthcare services for seniors who are unable to care for themselves because of their aging.

Nursing homes are a familiar and comfy care choice for persons 65 years and above, however nursing homes will accept persons 55 and above infrequently heard of in senior care regarding other care types. Often times individuals may choose to live in a nursing home due to a mental or physical condition that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their lifestyle goals. Types of care services and amenities offered at nursing homes can include room and board, help with legal questions, intravenous or nutrition therapy, and care coordination and case management. Nursing homes are required to provide specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), dietary services, room and bed maintenance services, and pharmaceutical services to residents. The most frequent mental condition effecting nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their and their sense of familiarity, decision making abilities, and memory function. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include a private room, unless medically needed, flowers and plants, and specially prepared food.
