I would highly recommend this place for you or your loved ones. The executive director made us feel welcomed from the start and really took the time to make us feel cared for. It is quite rare these days to find such great customer service and genuine people. It exceeded every expectation and I would gladly recommend this community to anyone.

My Mom was so impressed on our first visit to Independence Village that she decided right away that she wanted to live there. From the first time we visited Independence Village, the staff has always been very friendly, caring and professional. The staff at Independence Village made Mom feel welcome right from the start. Mom has made many friends and has enjoyed the many activities that are available to the residents. Mom especially loves the food. I am very satisfied with the level of care that Mom is receiving. It's really amazing to see how Mom is thriving since she moved into Independence Village. Whenever I ask Mom if she is happy living at Independence Village, she always smiles and says an emphatic YES!!!

We felt very welcomed from the moment we walked through the front doors. The staff knows each resident by name and goes out of their way to acknowledge them during our tour. The activities appeared to be well attended and the residents we asked about the food said they really enjoyed it. Planning to come back for a sit down meal with some of the residents for mom to get their take on the community.

I think the move-in was easy. The transition for my mom went well. They try to make her feel at home, and I think they do a good job trying to make her comfortable. I think the apartments are really nice. It' s a good size for her, and in terms of her mobility, she can get around well. The square footage lends itself to a good environment for someone who's 86 years old.

Complete guide to nursing homes

Yorktown, Indiana

Nursing Homes

A nursing home offers lodging to two or more seniors who are not related by marriage or by blood to the administrator. This type of community provides its residents with care by registered nurses. These nurses offer personal care, maintenance and other health related services for seniors who cannot take care of themselves.

Nursing homes are a helpful and comfortable care option for persons 65 years and above, however nursing homes will usually allow access to individuals 55 and older infrequently heard of in senior care regarding different care types. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to form or participate in resident groups, have your representative notified about your care, be free from abuse and neglect, and exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include personal reading materials, personal clothing, and personal comfort items. Often times seniors may select to live in a nursing home over another type of community due to a physical or mental impairment that prevents them from easily accomplishing their lifestyle goals. The most common mental disease experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their decision making capacities, and their sense of familiarity, and memory recall. Types of amenities and services offered at nursing homes can include help with shopping and transportation, personal care (including dressing, bathing, and toilet assistance), room and board, and patient and caregiver education.
