New ED is not to be trusted
we had a horrible and unjust experience with the new executive director!
the rooms are not well maintained. Dust bunnies everywhere. Slimy shower floors.
there are some nice people there.

My mom calls it her cruise ship on land.
They were pretty straight forward from the start.
Staff are extremely friendly. Residents are always out and active every time we go - that was one of the main reasons we chose this facility over others.

Recommended
We had no big problems with the staff, with the exception of some medication communication. They were all very pleasant and treat my dad with kindness and respect. The place was always clean and smelled fresh without odors. My dad did enjoy the food and got to know the staff there well. Love the fact that if he did not show up in the dining room, they brought him a tray. Or he would choose to eat in his room ahead of time and order his tray. Other places charge extra for a tray to be brought to the room. My family would recommend The Laurels to others. We have had several family members there through the years. My dad was in respite care there and the room was furnished for him and was very well designed. If this location was closer to my home, he would have stayed there for a good while.

Moving Mom to Assisted Living
My mother has had chronic intestinal issues since moving into the Laurels at the [date removed]. There were a few days where she said no one checked on her. The transition to medication management has been rocky due to staffing changes/shortages. Omnicare is handling the medication and they are currently giving her too high of a dosage of blood pressure medication because they are not allowed to cut a pill in half and the medication does not come in the 10mg dosage. I was the one who discovered this and am trying to work it out with Mom's external physician. My mother swears the new cook is putting sugar in everything, I ate with her one evening and while I felt the menu was a bit odd (stew beef with home fries, peppers and onions) I did not have any issue with the taste. My mother will not participate in the activities because they are all for "elderly" people (she is 88) but menu of the resident ms are in wheelchairs or use walkers

Happy, Safe, and at Peace
The Bridge to Rediscovery is a wonderful program and the staff that is implementing it is wonderful. The upper management leaves a bit to be desired. The Haven Staff is AWESOME. the staff that has been caring for and loving on my mama [name removed] and [name removed] are stellar, I could not ask for any better! I've (and my family) have been very happy with the Haven staff and environment that Mama has been in since day 1 [date removed] of the move in. I would tell people to overlook the paper problems and paper pushers. Just focus on the people that are caring for our loved ones. It is a big company and with that comes issues of upper level management caring only about the bottom line, money.
Mama is happy, safe, loved, clean, and stimulated. I'm good!

Dropped the ball
They don't exactly have their stuff together. They were all about sales but once we signed the contract, they dropped the ball. They first claimed they never received the FL2 (push the blame to someone else.) But in reality, they wanted it phrased a different way, but no one had told me that. I had to scramble to get another one sent the day before my mom was to move in. I had been there multiple times prior to that day but no one had said a word about needing anything more for move-in. They pushed for me to sign at the end of February but I did not hear back from our attorney until March so the contract was actually signed on [date removed]. We did not receive the keys until [date removed]. I spent a week cleaning and organizing her space and she moved in on the [date removed]. Our first statement started with a prorated bill for February and all of March. I have emailed three times now to ask that that be corrected cents they didn't even have a legal document in February and we didn't have access to the space until mid March. It appears that they have lost a few administrative staff people and a maintenance guy since we moved in. That seems like quite a bit of turnover in two months. The sales person said how they like to do a big move-in celebration and make their new residents feel welcome. Basically the celebration was me running her down in the hallway so that she could give Mom a gift bag with a blanket, a mug, and a word search book. They seem to have several empty rooms so I think that is why they are focused on sales but then drop the ball...I would probably not recommend this facility, you can find something just as good somewhere else , like their sister community that I wish we could have gotten into.

Needs improvement
Did not and still haven't received a copy of Dr [name removed] assessment. This community could use improved.
- Call lanyard system is not working properly ( "More fickle than you like", said[ name removed]. I asked what you were doing about it, no response. Stated you would pull the log report, No follow-up. Asked [name removed] about the call logs and she said they were deleted. When the button is pushed, not sure when anyone will show up - sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes an hour or more. Our loved one fell a few weeks back and no one called, had to plead for an incident report. Housekeeping was just okay, wet mopping the middle of the room floor, not emptying garbage regularly or putting liners back in the cans. Garbage or pine needles under end tables not vacuumed up. Toilet cleaned intermittently. Laundry - Still Missing pieces of laundry, was told the laundry person quit. Laundry was MIA for a couple of days. Timeliness of meds. sometimes at 8PM, sometimes at 9:30 PM where they had to wake her up. Mom fell late evening on Christmas eve. Received a call from CNA where they said to come pick up your mother that she dislocated her shoulder.
I asked them to call an ambulance and they refused because insurance won't cover it. I told them to call an ambulance right then.
They eventually did after I was quite agitated. Turns out she broke her humerus bone. Taking her in my car would have exacerbated the fracture. There were many times I had asked for an explanation of the levels of care which had gone unanswered. The Nursing director was very slow to answer my questions. Most times more than a week. Moved mom out as she was put into rehab where she still is today. We will not go back.

The Laurels & The Haven looked like a pretty nice facility right when you walk in but was not as nice as we kept going. They would not let us try any of the food which was a disappointment.

The Laurels is an extremely nice facility. Is is a lot bigger with more residents and we were looking for a smaller place so that the care would be more personalized. There were some cleanliness issues that I found as well, but overall it looked like a nice place just not the right fit for us.

The Laurels at Highland Creek
I’m adding to a previous review. I forgot to mention that the activities are basically the same week after week. There is little to help keep seniors mentally stimulated. There is little to help with any manual manipulation activities. There are however plenty of ice cream socials. If you are looking for an assisted living community that doesn’t allow its residents to become bored, again look elsewhere!!

My mother has lived here for 18 months. Over the past 6 to 8 months things have changed dramatically. Staff is constantly changing and consistency of care is questionable. Management tries but is unable to follow through with what is promised. If we were looking again for assisted living for our mother we would definitely look elsewhere.

Would not go there if I knew then what I know now.
Have my parents there for >1year and the services have been declining rapidly. Issue after issue. Misplaced meds. Or meds not given on time. Mandate increasing Level of Care needed for no good reason. Work to push folks over to the Haven as they conveniently asses that memory care is now needed. Someone outside of their business warned me prior to move in, but the folks seemed so honest and nice (fake) that I didn't heed the warning. Food is not good. From the director, to the head nurse, to the wait staff, and med techs, staff turnover is constant.. But, they always have a great excuse. If I can get back the community fee paid, I would find a new place for mom and dad. Check other reviews you can find online. Beware.

Good; New General Manager and Head of Nursing are Poor.
My loved one has been a resident for several years. Overall the Laurels is very nice. They redid the furniture in the living room this past year and it is not good. Obviously a designer from corporate did it to look good but it is not functional - way too big for almost all residents and doesn't take spills and other possible accidents into consideration with the fabric choices. They also only updated the main living room and dining room - not the resident rooms which REALLY NEED IT! They also hired a new general manager this past year. She [Removed] is awful. Cold as a fish, very unfriendly, autocratic and doesn't listen well. She and the new head of nursing, [Removed] (lots of recent turnover) are both uncaring and dictatorial - no partnership/discussion with them on issues - just declarations of decisions that were made without any input from family. They seem to be focused on moving residents to The Haven (memory care) so Five Star can make more $$ - makes one wonder if their compensation is based upon that. Food is very good and the caregivers - with the exception of a handful - are nice and very caring. My loved one has had some small items stolen from their room and the cleaning staff regularly opens up a kitchen drawer and eats from the candy in there - without invitation. This is an expensive private pay facility - they do a good job overall, but I expect more at this level - especially from the general manager and head of nursing. They are really bad. Numerous people have complained and Five Star turns a deaf ear. I am listing this review as anoyomous because I do not want repercussions on my parent. That's how much I don't trust [Removed].

First Class & Flawless
First class and flawless. They have worked with us. It's never an easy thing, but they worked with us closely. We also got a somewhat of an upgrade on her room for the same cost as the regular. Everything has been good. The food is good. The facility is very clean. The management is outstanding. It has been an excellent experience at The Laurels at Highland Creek. Everyone has been very friendly. It's great.
