Review for Harmony at Kent
Staffing is that the minimum that is required. This makes the aids or CNA's not very personable to the individuals. My loved one was an independent living and assisted-living and is now in memory care staff assumes being where they are that the individuals do not know what is supposed to be done, which leads to not doing what they're supposed to do. The sales pitch was very good but an actuality very few of the things are supposed to do is done by us.The appearance of the place is what sold us but the marketing agent should have been a car salesman.

This is in regards to the Independent Living section:
The fall/winter 2023-2024 season began a series of days where the heat and hot water does not work in different apartments. This issue has been going on for months with no resolution. There have been more than 1 maintenance/HVAC personnel attempting to fix the issue permanently, however the repairs only last a few days at best, even when new parts are ordered. The elderly are already at high risk in extreme temperatures but are being exposed to under freezing temps repeatedly. There has been no offers to move residents to empty units if available and residents are prohibited from using space heaters.
There has also been an ongoing issues with the showers flooding from construction debris getting into the pipes some kind of way that hasn't been figured out yet.
Staff turnover is constant probably as a result of low wages and resident complaints of the building issues. The facilities otherwise look nice because it's new.

Experience so far
They have a serious problem with staff turnover. Communication with the family is awful. I am consistently trying to get updates on my loved one. The food selection is limited and takes a long time and the quality is poor. They try hard, but cannot keep up.

A very nice facility but needs improvement on healthcare and communication with family.
I love the place but getting important information about care is impossible and very disappointing. They need more staff in my opinion.
I would recommend them with improvements on health information.

I would recommend, but would want folks to realize that because it is new, they are working out a few issues.
This is a new facility, and they seem to have several kinks to work out. Staffing seems to be an issue. Dad is not too involved with activities so I really can't speak much to that. He is not overly impressed with the food, but I have had two meals there and they seemed okay.

A Place for Mom (Independent Living)
I phoned A Place for Mom just to see if they could help me find a place for my Mother-in-law to live independently, but with help close by if needed. From the 1st call the Director of Sale, Terrance at Harmony at Kent in Dover DE helped with every step to make sure my family was comfortable with everything they provide. Mom now has companionship and complete protection & I now have peace of mind knowing she is safe being alone in her own apartment bldg. but if she needs help (& she has already needed it) she is surrounded by other tenant's and qualified people who run Harmony at Kent. They provide full dining room meals if chosen or you can make your own food or if you don't feel well, they can even deliver it to your room. They have Church services, exercise machines & therapy svc. The have van svc. for grocery & pharmacy trips etc. They also have a full salon & have all kinds of activities; movies, bingo etc. & they even have happy hour. You will love this place, I know we do!

My loved one is currently a resident at Harmony at Kent. Overall, her experience at this facility has been very good. The friendliness and staff are great. The activities are great. The cleanliness and care services are good. However, they really need to do better on the food situation. Overall, I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

Tour experience
We loved what we saw in the brochures. The facility was not completed when we met with them for our tour experience. We would have chosen Harmony at Kent, however the assisted living area wouldn't have been completed for 6 months. We need a facility right away so the time frame just did not work out.

Good Experience
The interaction with the staff has been excellent. My loved one is eating, and people are encouraging her to eat. They are getting her engaged with the activities. It's affordable. It is beautiful, it's brand new, and a clean community. Everyone has been very helpful, and they are very responsive. Overall, it has been very good experience.

When we toured, Harmony at Kent wasn’t open yet - they were still finishing up the building. It was clean, even though they were still working on things. The layouts that I saw were very nice. I was not crazy about the location though (an industrial space across from the highway).

My loved one enjoys staying there. Being brand new and with the staffing crisis the dining arrangements have been difficult. Not horrible, but the staff has changed a few times and things are not consistent. I'm sure it'll improve over time. The staff has been great. Very friendly and always willing to help.

best transition with Harmony
Our loved one for the first couple of weeks had a had time adjusting which is probably most common with families, but the staff hung in there and were very patient which we appreciated it. The staff not only take interest in our loved one but all the other residents and our family when we come to visit. The residents are all very friendly and are always together which is nice to see. Based on our experience with Harmony at Kent we would absolutely recommend this community to other fairies .

A great facility
We chose Harmony at Kent because of the price, the availability of rooms (most in town were full) and the staff were very helpful in getting him transitioned here smoothly. The rooms are a lot larger in comparison to other places that we looked at in the area. It is a brand new facility and super clean. It is in a great location that is close to shopping. Since it is brand new, not everything is up and running yet but they are in the process of getting things going. I would recommend this facility to others, it is a great place.

Happy with our choice
We chose Harmony at Kent because of the location. We found it was a very new and beautiful place. The price was very affordable as well especially for what is offered. The apartment sizes are extremely nice. They do have tons of activities provided. She has gone to the casino, she plays cards cards, dominoes, and she also goes out a lot. They have a bar and restaurant as well and do wine nights. They have a theatre where they show movies. There is no pool. She is constantly busy. They are in the process of trying to get a hair dresser in there but can't seem to find one. I would absolutely recommend Harmony to others looking.

This has been a great experience for us with Harmony. This a great place to live. They are a brand new community. I would highly recommend the community to others for their loved ones.
The meals themselves and the quality of food is good. The service of the food being delivered or being served cold is an issue. It would be nice to have more staff to assist in serving the meals to the residents. There is one meal a day provided which is dinner. If the resident would like to dine for breakfast or lunch there is an additional fee.
There is a full kitchen in the apartment and a washer/dryer combination in the apartment for the residents to use. There can be frustration due to the combination washer dryer as the dryer doesn't truly dry the clothes.

Must See Community!
general areas are clean, but light housekeeping in independent living should include taking out trash. Meals get 2 stars but they are actively working on it. Value is Good compared to others.

A number of the Senior Independent Living residents are dissatisfied with their dining experiences here. Personally, it has gotten worst ! For 2 days we residents have had to serve ourselves. Buffet style. This is difficult for many. The food is raked through and picked over by some residents. The deserts such as pie and cake are limited. They run out. The ice cream even ran out! How can this be! This is not what we expected! The staff is very good and courteous . But they are unhappy. Please pay them what they are worth. In the agreement new residents are to receive 2 hours of move in maintenance. It is impossible to accomplish that when there is only 1 maintenance person for the entire facility. He does an excellent job. But he is not a machine! On a positive note, the building is fabulous! The outside grounds are very well maintained. The apartments are spacious .
