The most senior, administrative staff are all friendly and courteous. There is constant turnover among all other staff with the exception of the cook. The facility is not well maintained as far as cleanliness. There is poor follow up on expressed concerns.

When I moved here we had a designated place to smoke with receptacles to dispose of ashes. The have moved that out behind the dumpster. There is no shade or cover from the rain.

Hoping food gets better
The facility and staff are great, the only downfall is the food. My loved one said as a lot of people are unhappy with the food and are looking into new places that are newer. The day we moved her in, one of the ladies I rode up in the elevator with said she was moving out because of the food as well. I have heard that they were just bought out by a new company, so we are hoping for some improvements.

First Impressions at Shasta Estates
The staff is very friendly and seem to listen. But as far as them putting action to voiced concerns, that has been a little slow. They don't have a way to introduce new people to the community. I wish they had a greeter or ambassador to help new residents meet people, mingle, and get acclimated. I don't see the staff calling people by name. And I don't see a personal and welcoming connection between the staff and the residents. They don't have a laundry facility available for residents 24/7. M-F, the residents can use the laundry room from 6 am - 8 am and after 4 pm. And then on the weekends they can use it all day long. But during the daytime on weekdays, it's closed for housekeeping to wash towels and sheets . I think there should be separate laundry facility for staff vs. residents. There have been three different chefs in the last three months. They seem to continually ask what you think about what's going on with the food, but then it doesn't seem like any changes are made after those conversations. But it's a very nice place overall. It's a beautiful setting with beautiful grounds. The apartments and amenities are all good. The staff are friendly. There are just some things I would like them to do differently - most of all making a more welcoming experience for new residents.

We really liked Shasta Estates, if the decision was up to me I actually preferred this facility. It is owned by the same company as the place that my dad chose, it is just a lot newer. I think they have a better use of their common areas for the residents.

Food is not good for the most part. Mom won’t eat it a lot of the time! Have mentioned it to management and he is concerned & speaks to chef and it gets better for a little while. Needs to be more “home style” cooking and fresher. They use leftover from day before food to disguise in something else. I have personally seen the food and it does not look or smell appetizing.

Grateful for Shasta Estates
I’m so happy for my grandmother that she has Shasta Estates. I’ve been to several retirement communities, including years as a volunteer, and I appreciate the friendly staff, the cleanliness, the activities, the live music, the movies- there is a lot going on and it’s being done well.
I would give full stars if the food was better. It’s not bad, but I’d want organic food and nutrient dense food… Like other retirement communities,, the food tends to have too many empty calories and little concern for organics.
Overall it’s a standout. My grandma is in good hands and she’s comfortable here - which my mother and I value so much. Congratulations to the staff and to the Executive Director. Keep up the good work!

A nice community
I really like there. I feel that they that need to make some improvements such as they outdated cable. I have to pay for internet and cable because the one include doesn't work well. My love one has some dietary restrictions so the meals are bit challenging. The food is good but there aren't enough healthy options varieties each day.

Bright and friendly community
My mother in law has been very happy there. There are only two issues we have had there, they only one elevator which is very inconvenient, and the other is that the maintenance staff isn't responsive, Other than that, the food seems really good. There doesn't seem to be many activities and some of the residents seem to start their own activities. It is a very bright and welcoming building, it is newer, there are high ceilings in dining room, and there is an outdoor sidewalk with gardens.

A Nice Place to Be
Shasta Estates is a nice place to be. It is one of the best in Redding under normal conditions. Food is good when it is served in the dining room. Room size and layout is very good. Outdoor space is very well kept.
