As North America’s largest senior living care and referral service, A Place for Mom has offered scholarships in support of future senior care professionals for the past seven years.
In 2018, we asked students to participate in our “Senior Wisdom Video Scholarship” by creating a video highlighting the impact that seniors have on society and how the students’ lives have been enriched by their relationships with seniors.
We received many wonderful student video submissions and chose one Senior Wisdom Video Scholarship winner per quarter – you can watch the winning students’ videos below.
Talk with a Senior Living Advisor
Our advisors help 300,000 families each year find the right senior care for their loved ones.
We have also chosen one student as the “Best of the Senior Wisdom Video Scholarship” winner out of the four quarterly winners and are very happy to announce that Jennifer Jasiak from the University of Ottawa has earned that prize.
Thank you to all of the students who submitted their videos to us. We wish you all much success in the future!
1st Quarter Winner: Edwin Espinosa
Edwin is pursuing his doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. Edwin chose a career in physical therapy because he knows what a difference physical therapy can make in the quality of life for seniors with mobility issues.
2nd Quarter Winner: Leanne Tams
Leanne is majoring in nursing at Sprott Shaw College in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Leanne is passionate about client-centered care and greatly enjoys making the difference in the lives of the seniors she encounters in her school and volunteer work.
3rd Quarter and Best of 2018 Winner: Jennifer Jasiak
Jennifer is majoring in nursing at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario, with the goal of becoming a geriatric nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, Jennifer looks forward to building long-term relationships with her clients that will enrich their lives throughout the aging process.
4th Quarter Winner: Erika Jacobson
Erika is pursuing an advanced certificate in gerontology at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Nebraska. Erika is already a licensed social worker who works with a VA medical center and looks forward to being able to help older veterans who may otherwise not receive the specialized services they deserve.
Note: In 2019, A Place for Mom will be making a few changes to the Senior Wisdom Scholarship. This year, we are giving students the option to write an essay or make a video based on the Andy Rooney quote: “The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.”
We will continue to accept applications year round, but winners for the 2018/2019 school year will be chosen in May 2019.
