Research services for seniors in San Antonio, TX

In San Antonio, TX, seniors have access to local offices and organizations that may help them obtain financial assistance for senior care, including:

San Antonio operates a comprehensive public bus system called VIA, which consists of the standard city bus as well as VIAtrans, a system geared toward persons with disabilities. VIAtrans trips can be scheduled approximately a day in advance along VIA’s standard bus routes. Eligibility must be determined for approval to utilize VIAtrans services. Seniors 62+ can obtain a Reduced Fare ID, which reduces the cost of bus fare on weekdays, and permits free rides on weekends. Buses generally run from around 5am to 10pm, with some downtown buses running later.

San Antonio offers several health care providers for seniors wanting to be proactive about their health or for seniors seeking treatment for chronic conditions. The area has several hospitals, including Methodist Hospital and Kindred Hospital San Antonio.

San Antonio’s pleasant weather and reputation as a major tourist destination means there’s never a shortage of fun activities. For Texas history buffs, no visit to San Antonio would be complete without a visit to the Alamo mission, which currently operates a museum and historical tour. Another of the city’s most popular destinations is the San Antonio River Walk. A sunken pedestrian thoroughfare, the River Walk winds through the city along the San Antonio River, and is lined with shops, restaurants, historic missions, and various attractions. The River Walk is a central component of many area celebrations, such as Fiesta San Antonio — a yearly city festival dating back over a century, commemorating the region’s historical battles. Fiesta San Antonio lasts approximately 2 weeks, draws millions of people, and consists of hundreds of events, such as a boat parade of floats travelling the San Antonio River. San Antonio is also home to what was the first modern art museum in Texas, the McNay Art Museum, which consists of founder Marion Koogler McNay’s 1927 mansion, the museum itself, and a Japanese-style garden. The museum includes over 20,000 art objects, and boasts works by famed artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, and Diego Rivera.

What are care homes?
