Karl Henry Herman
Branch: Navy
War or Conflict: Korean War
Years of Service: 2
Unfortunately, Dad passed away October 2014 and he was buried in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. He served in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic. He served on the USS Yorktown and in the Korean conflict. I used to tease me that he lost all his hair when he heard that my mom had had a girl. He also would remark about how he was sent over to Korean only to find out that upon landing in Korea, he was ordered to get back on the plane and head back home where he would be discharged. He didn't have any special awards or honors other than to be my dad....I think that is the best award and honor for a parent to achieve.
