Edward (Ned) Dewey
Branch: Navy
Rank: Lieutenant (0-3)
War or Conflict: Korean War
Years of Service: 4
Ned Dewey was in ROTC at Brown University. Graduating in 1950, he went straight to a warship headed for Korea. After many months at sea, Ned received a forwarded letter from the Olympic Committee inviting him to be part of the Olympic Ice Hockey Team. His response had been required four months earlier. Ned joined the USS Missouri and became the Assistant Navigator, collecting stories of his Navy days and the flagship to enthrall his children and grandchildren. Ned also continued to play ice hockey and played on amateur teams until he was 57 years old. Ned retired to South Texas and has a telescope on his porch so that he can watch the ships from the Corpus Christi Naval Base ply the waves.
