College Place, Washington

Assisted Living

An assisted living facility is a residential community which provides supervision, care, and aid to self-sufficient persons who do not need skilled nursing care. Assisted living facilities often offer assistance with appointments and transit, chances for recreational activity, and help with the activities of daily life. In select cases, facilities may provide Alzheimer's care, skilled nursing, or hospice. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $66,000 . Washington maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of facility. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) certifies this facility type. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include resident self-administration of medication, medication administration provided through nurse delegation, and residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include practitioner, a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , and nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible. Staff members obtain training in a number of fields. These include: nurse delegation and core diabetes, HIV/AIDS, First-aid and CPR, and specialty training. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include basic personal care services, assistance with ADLs, general responsibility for each resident, and facilities choose to provide certain health support services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as activities and service preferences, significant known behaviors or symptoms that may cause concern or require special care, level of personal care needs, and mental illness. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program--Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room.
