Assisted living communities administer social events, personal care, and oversight to individuals who are around 65 years of age or older. The types of service offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, respite, or Alzheimer’s care. The state of Virginia maintains a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Virginia Department of Social Services regulates this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include a licensed health care professionall must annually review all residents medications, Residents may self-administer medications if they are capable, and The community must have a medication management plan that is reviewed and approved by the Department.. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include bedtime and between meal snacks must be available, three nutritious meals must be provided each day, and Periodic oversight of special diets by a dietitian or nutritionist. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program–Virginia Alzheimer s Assisted Living. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include Meet the service plan objectives, personal and health care services, periodic health care and oversight through a licensed health care professionall, and Promote a sense of security and self-worth. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as Initial comprehensive assessment and develop a care plan with the input of the resident, family, direct care staff, case manager, and health care providers, as relevant. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include Specific duties and requirements of their positions, procedures for detecting suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation, emergency and disaster plans, including those for evacuating residents., and hand-washing techniques, standard precautions, and infection risk reduction behavior.
