Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, hospice, or continuing care. The South Dakota Department of Health, Office of Health Care communities Licensure and Certification certifies this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals must be served daily, If residents require special diets, a dietician must be employed or consulted to approve special diet needs and written menus, plan individual diets, and provide guidance to dietary staff, and ensure that meals and snacks are nutritionally adequate in accordance with the Recommended Dietary Allowances. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include mandatory reporting policies, accident prevention and safety procedures, emergency procedures, and care of persons with unique needs. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as social accommodations, assess each resident€™Ã‚¢Ã…¡s cognitive status upon admission, and physical examination. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supportive services for activities and spiritual needs individualized to each resident, coordinate resident access to a physician, physician assistant, skilled care must be delivered by community staff or a Medicare-certified home health agency for a limited time with a planned end date, and nurse practitioner at least annually. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration , Residents may self-administer drugs, and evaluated by pharmacist and licensed nurse .
