An assisted living community is a residential community which offers support, assistance, and care to healthy seniors who are not in need of skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities often offer chances for recreational activity, aid with the activities of daily life, and assistance with appointments and transit. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, hospice, or dementia care. Oklahoma has specific statutes related to this kind of community. Department of Health, Protective Health Services, Long-term Care Services certifies this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include staff must be trained in food preparation, must provide three meals a day, and must use a licensed dietician to develop diet plan. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 4 residents and one toilet for every 4 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 2. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with transfer, nursing supervision, social activities, and housekeeping. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid 1915(c) Advantage Program, the Sooner Services Program, and the My Life My Choice Program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include provide medication administration and observe the swallowing of oral medications. Staff members obtain training in a variety of areas. These include: first-aid, residents’ specific needs, and cpr.
