Assisted living communities provide apartment-style housing and social interaction as well as individual support. Services offered often involve assistance with ADLs. Residents may be kept under observation and assessment. In select situations, communities may offer hospice, skilled nursing, or “aging in place”. The state of Ohio maintains specific standards associated with this type of community. Ohio Department of Health regulates this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include intermittent nursing services, supervision, activities, and personal care. These include: securing emergency assistance, job responsibilities, residents rights, and community procedures. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders, handing medications to resident, and verifying labels.
