Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and assistance for people who need a helping hand with things such as mobility or taking medication. Assisted living communities commonly offer chances for leisurely activity, care supervision, and help with daily activities. In some instances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, nursing care, or continuing care. The state of Ohio has a number of stipulations related to this type of community. Ohio Department of Health regulates this type of community. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, activities, intermittent nursing services, and supervision. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as psychical history, functional status assessment, medication review, and medical diagnoses. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders, verifying labels, and assistance opening and taking medication. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. In total, there can be no more than 4 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. Staff must receive training in a variety of fields. These areas include community procedures, securing emergency assistance, residents rights, and job responsibilities.
