Assisted living communities offer healthcare, social events, and oversight to persons who are on average 65 years old. Assisted living communities commonly offer help with appointments and transit, assistance with the activities of daily life, and chances for leisurely activity. These areas include handling and reporting complaints, reporting abuse/neglect, basic elements of body functioning, and needs and concerns of elderly and disabled persons. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include reasonable assistance with arranging transportation, assistance with self-administration of medication, weekly housekeeping, and Periodic opportunities for socialization. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include housing with service establishments that use the term assisted living must provide two meals per day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include administration of medications, the person must demonstrate competence in following the instructions, and assistance with self-administration of medications. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver programs (Elderly, Traumatic Brain Injury, Community Alternatives for Disabled Adults, and Community Alternative Care).
