Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. In some cases, communities may offer hospice, skilled nursing, or dementia care. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Staff must obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include emergency disaster plans, infection control, fire and life safety, and state-approved, 5-hour training on cognitive impairment and mental illness. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as problematic behaviors, activities of daily living needs, risk factor management needs, and the assessment must be reviewed every 6 months. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include residents’ ability to self-administer must be reviewed at least quarterly by a licensed health professionall, staff who have passed a Board of nursing program may administer medications, and a licensed health professionall must review each resident’s medication regime within 14 days of admission. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be varied, meals must be of sufficient quantity and quality to meet daily nutritional needs, programs must provide three meals a day and snacks, and meals must be properly prepared.
