Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and health care for people who might require support with everyday activities such as cooking or mobility. Assisted living communities commonly offer chances for social activity, help with appointments and transit, and supervision of care. In select instances, communities may provide hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or continuing care. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. The state of Florida has specific regulations related to this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation certifies this community type. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include staff may take previously dispensed, properly labeled containers from where they are stored and bringing them to the resident, opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, and licensed nursing staff may administer medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, and meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities . Staff members obtain education in a variety of areas. These areas include providing assistance with activities of daily living, resident abuse, neglect, and and exploitation, reporting incidents, and resident behavior and needs. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, assistance with self-administration of medications, nursing services, and assistance with activities of daily living . Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical examination report, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , and communities must document such assessment.
