Assisted living facilities administer personal care, supervision, and recreational activities to people around 65 years old. The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection supervises this type of facility. Public assistance is available through The Delaware Diamond State Health Plan Plus. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, A dietician or nutritionist must ensure that menus are nutritionally adequate, and a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include leisure activities that promote the physical and mental well-being of each resident, laundry and housekeeping, arrangements for emergency transportation, and opportunities for social interaction. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include self-administer medication, assistance with self-administering medications, and medication review by an run. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as RN conducts a Uniform Assessment Instrument (UAI) with the resident, facilities must develop a service agreement with each resident, The UAI collects information about the resident’s mental and physical status, and The UAI collects information about the residents psychosocial needs. Staff members receive training in a variety of subjects. These include: assessment process, 1(2 hours) of annual training, emergency disaster plans, and hospice services.
