What are options for dental cleaning if travel is not an option?

My husband is in memory care for vascular dementia. It takes 2 - 3 people to transfer him and he does not understand instructions very well. He still has most of his own teeth. He gets assistance in brushing his teeth, but it is challenging to get it done well. His dentist does not have capability to go to him to do a dental cleaning. What other options to we have to get a dental cleaning in the memory unit?

Talk to the Social Worker at your husband's Memory Care Facility. There are services available for in-house dental care. You will most likely have to enroll him in some kind of dental insurance plan. These are not cheap. You will also need to ask yourself if your husband will be able to cooperate with a dental hygeniest/dentist if he does not understand or follow instructions. My husband had the same issues. He had vascular dementia and was unable/unwilling to cooperate. There comes a time when you have to pick your battles. If he is not having any major dental issues, you may want to just try to brush them yourself if he is more cooperative with you.
