What kind of exercise can a 92 year old woman do with cartilage loss?

Can walking with a hip that has cartilage loss between the ball and socket be harmful? She walks with a walker and is getting a MRI tomorrow, but wants to do some walking.

Walking is one of those things that hurts when you have cartilage loss (sounds like osteoarthritis), but helps keep the joints active and mobile. So, YES, walking is great, but I would recommend not over-doing it and only complete safely with her walker until you have a concrete diagnosis. After the MRI, I would recommend making an appointment with the referring physician to hear the results, what the recommendations are for treatment i.e. pain medications, physical and occupational therapy, aquatic therapy, joint replacement, etc.
