Will VA assist with costs associated with wait times to be buried at Arlington?

My husband is on hospice and we are trying to make final arrangements, he is eligible to be buried at Arlington but there is a long wait time. The funeral home wants $105 each day they store his body. Will the VA help with this expense? Cremation is not an answer, he has always wanted to be buried in his dress blues with full military honors. He served throughout most of WWII and for 25 years after, I don't want to deny him his final wish.

The VA will not pay for any of the costs associated with storing remains. Depending on whether or not your husband would be entitled to burial benefits from the VA could help offset that cost some but without more information I would not know. Perhaps there would be a funeral home in your area that would work with you on the cost as a final honor to your husband.

Contact the Veterans Administration or have a family member call.

I also suggest that you call your congressional representative office and/or Senator. First begin with your congressmember and then your senator.

Have the documents ready -- DD-214 and any other information requested which identify and clarify why our husband is eligible and how to store his body until transportation and burial arrangements are scheduled to be buried at Arligonton.
