Should my dad have some sort of ID?

His driver's license is technically still valid but he no longer drives due to a previous stroke. He is in assisted living and has transportation services, is it necessary for him to have another form of ID? He also has an expired passport.

Having an ID of any sort is never a bad idea. You don't mention the level of care he is receiving, but it would be a good idea to discuss it with the facility where he resides. If you wish to move forward with it, you can usually get a card ID from the same office that issues a driver's license if that's what you like. An alternative might be a bracelet that can be worn at all times. If he has any medical or health care issues/dependencies, that information could be included so that in the event of an emergency, the persons providing aid would have a heads up on his condition.
