I think your first step would be to inform your boss/supervisor or HR what is going on. They may have a copy of the Act posted.
You can search the United States Department of Labor for information on the act. From what I read it is 12 weeks unpaid per year for eligible employees. I do not see anything about individual days off. This might be something to discuss with your employer. It might be like it is when you have a child and you need to take a sick day for your Mom's appointments.
