How do I find overnight in home care for my parents?

I am looking for overnight care for my parents in their home. I would like to keep them at home as long as I can. I don't think they are able to live in assisted living and not quite ready for a nursing home. My mom has dementia and my dad had a stroke but they are both ambulatory. They basically need supervison to make sure mom does not wander away from home and dad has someone to call 911 if he has another stroke. We do have a caregiver during the daytime that cooks and cleans and monitors meds while I am at work but I need overnight help so that I can get some sleep. Any help is appreciated and we will pay out of pocket if we have to.

You should be able to find a home care agency in your area that can accomodate your needs. If you're savy with the internet, you can use google to search for services like "in home care" or "senior care". Also, check with your local senior center for advice. Do not settle on the first one you find. Rather, compare the services offered, rates, caregiver training, etc., and how they would structure the coverage you need. As for paying, if neither parent has a Long Term Care insurance policy, the next question is did either serve in the military. Benefits are available for veterans, and it's worth investigating.

Have you checked for home health agencies in your area? I work for an agency and we have caregivers that work anywhere from 2 hour shifts on up to live in shifts

In-home health care is great choice...we have Bare Essentials in Kansas City and service providers call it Respite Care. Medicare, medicaid do pay for so many units. Call your parents caseworker for more details.
