Ask a Question

How difficult is it to move my father from assisted living in Ontario to Alberta?

I am the only child of my 92 year old father. He is living in Ontario, I am in Alberta, and other more distant relatives are in New brunswick. He is staying in an assisted living lodge 1.5 hours away from ottawa. I go visit when I can but this is more difficult in winter, and I would like to move him closer in edmonton, Alberta. He is now getting more confused with age and I don't think he'll care where he is living. I have power of attorney and am taking care of his finances already.
How difficult would it be to move him to alberta with provincial health care rules and with alberta assisted living residences rules or nursing homes rules? What are the steps I would need to take (and in what order)? Do I start with finding a spedcific home for him here, or are there general rules that apply to all senior's home for out of province seniors?
Thank you!
