Need senior apartment, make too much for govt assistance

My Mom and I live in west North Carolina. She lives in an apartment and is very lonely. There is no one around during the day and no one wants to be bothered with her. I visit her a couple of times a week. She needs to be in a senior community but makes too much for government assistance (section 8), but not enough for a senior community. I have been looking for 2 years with no luck. She is on two lists for senior apartments she can afford but the lists are very long and slow moving. A Place for Mom recommends facilities that are over $1000 a month more than she can afford. She is deteriorating from depression and lack of activity. Would appreciate any help or advice.

Not uncommon and heartbreaking. Suggest you talk with local church office adminstrators. Share a "resume" of mom's background and likes and dislikes. They may know of someone in their "flock" that needs a roommate?
