Ask a Question

If standard treatments are refused will it affect Medicare?

My Dad has had a stroke, his doctor wants him on statins, blood thinners and three different blood pressure medications. Dad does not agree with present philosopy on treatment and wishes to try something more natural for stroke prevention. He has been told he might have to sign a paper which documents his refusal and releases the doctor from responsibility. Medicare is his only insurance and consequently he is concerned about Medicare coverage if a doctor's recommendation is refused.

The answer to this question depends on your location, considering Medicare coverage varies from state to state. Also, it depends on what kind of Medicare your father has. Does he have basic Medicare, Medicare advantage through a carrier, or a Medicare suppliment?
