Is a remarried widow eligible for VA benefits?

My mother lives in an assisted living facility. My father, her first spouse, was a veteran of World War II, when he died, they were still married. Subsequently, she remarried. Her second spouse (not a veteran) also died while they were married. Is she eligible for any VA benefits?

Unfortunately, no. The second marriage is the only one the VA will consider.

Typically, the answer is no. Unless she remarried after she turned 57 then she is still able to use the prior marriage for benefits.

There are certain exceptions for spouses whose marriage to the veteran ended and the spouse re-married between certain dates. Call us with your specific situation.
