Ask a Question

What do I do if I suspect my caregiver is being neglectful or abusive?

I just don't know if it's the caregiver or my mom being delusional. She has Lewy Body dementia and she's not always rational. I've always thought the caregiver was very pleasant, calm and has a good sense of humor. If it is just Mom saying things due to her illness I don't want to embarrass the caregiver but obviously I don't want my Mom hurt.

Have you had a conversation with the caregiver directly? If you mom is identifying a certain time of day or issue, maybe making a pop in visit (if geography allows) would be helpful. If you are not in the area talking to a neighbor or close friend might be helpful. It is good you recognize the 'story-telling' that can go on with dementia and at the same time doing all you can to ensure your mom is safe.
