Do long term care facilities accept Medi-Cal or veterans benefits

My mother is 94 years old and lives in a Section 8 Senior Apartment Housing facility in La Habra, CA. She lives alone and receives hospice care through Medicare; a home health aide & LVN visit her twice a week. Yesterday, her case Social Worker appraised her as being unsafe to live alone, due to issues with confusion and some delusional behavior. She lives on a monthly Social Security income of $924.90 Gross/$820 net and has no assets. My father was a WWII veteran, she doesn't receive any benefits from the Veterans Admin. Are there senior facilities that accept Medi-care (we have not applied yet) and or Veterans benefits, if my mother should be eligible for financial assistance. I would appreciate any advise or guidance that you could offer.

There are 2 issues. Your mother is in hospice care which medicare will pay. I believe Medicare will pay for hospice care in a facility.

Go to and speak with a representative about hospice care.

Medi-Cal is for care facility care but I do not think your mother would be eligible as she has hospice services.

I would also contact social services in Orange County to ask them to help you learn what benefits are available.
