When someone is admitted to hospice services, it is expected that the individual will no longer receive life saving medications, such as chemotherapy.

The focus of hospice care is to provide comfort and relief of symptoms, which includes any medications needed to maintain your dad’s comfort.

You can find more information about hospice regulations at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website at: (www.cms.gov).

Your doctor's office will also have information on hospice care.

My mother was on hospice care and none of her medications were discontinued. She was not on chemotherapy or any type of heavy-duty drugs. She was taking thyroid pill, allopurinol to prevent gout, blood pressure pill, diuretic and pain-killers as needed before she went on hospice and the same afterwards.
