How do I keep my mom from taking off her seatbelt?

My mom has dementia and has developed a sudden aversion to wearing a seatbelt but gets mad when I won't take her somewhere. How do I convince her to buckle up?

That's a tough one but an important question. Sounds like you enjoy taking her places and she isn't too far into the disease. There is an equipment called hand mittens. They look like white boxing gloves that prevent patients from grabbing onto things they have them at hospitals probably could find it on Amazon. Also check a child safety website. There must be a seatbelt lock for toddlers. My girl when she was little would open her seat belt so I got twine and tied her in so even if she did undo her seatbelt she was still in it. You could try that but I am sure there is a child safety device out there now a days. Good luck!!

My Mom did this for a while, as well as try to open the door when we were driving. I would pull over to the side of the street at the moment she did it and tell her we would not continue until she stopped. Unfortunately you have to treat them like children sometimes. Try not to show frustration when repremanding her - try to keep you calm and just tell her things as matter of fact. Good Luck
