Using an assistive device is often an issue of pride for some seniors who don't realize it is for their own safety and well-being. As you and I know, using such a device can help prevent a fall that could result in a much more undesirable outcome and/or stay in a rehabilitation setting or other nursing home. Conveying that to your mom might be a good idea.

Hot pink or a purple maybe.
If you have kids and they are up for an art project let them decorate one for her.
YOu can sometimes find canes at resale shops very inexpensively and having a few that are decorated might make a difference.
It is amazing what a few cans of spray paint and some decals can do.
