Ask a Question

Are there any services for providing low cost meals that aren't fast food?

I live alone and after 50+ years of cooking I don't want to do it anymore.

Meals on Wheels will provide one meal a day to housebound seniors. If you are willing to do a little bit of cooking try crockpot meals, they are simple and you can freeze the leftovers for another meal or two. Another option might be to trade services with a friend or neighbor, if they make a large batch of something they can freeze some and give it to you in exchange for something.

I concur with the Meals on Wheels option. Your local Area Agency on Aging http://www.n4a.org/ should be able to either get you connected and/or better explain the qualifications for the program. Freezer cooking, as stated before, is also another good option if you enjoy cooking or want to continue to do it but it sounds as if maybe you are looking to get away from that portion of every day demands.

Have you contacted your local senior center? There are usually several social opportunities throughout the month for a social meal or event. Not only will your food intake needs be met but you might be able to meet some new folks (and can share a meal in your own home together, taking turns cooking for one another if you so choose).
