How do I get my parents to discuss their finances with me?

My parents come from a generation where money was simply not discussed. How do I overcome this in case something ever happens to my dad?

You might also visit It is about death, disabiltiy and planning, but the techniques they share are applicable to finances, driving, etc.

You may express your concern for their financial well-being as they age, but they may never want you to be intimately involved with their finances. You could bring up the rising cost of long-term care and ask if they realize the toll that it has on many people and could have on them. If they still don't wish to have you involved, you could suggest they meet with a Certified Financial Planner or an elder law attorney so there is someone looking out for their finances, even if it can't be you.
