Can a vegetarian diet be healthy for a senior?

Dad is in an assisted living community. He has all of a sudden decided that he is a vegetarian. The community does their best to accommodate his wishes but can a senior citizen be healthy on a vegetarian diet?

As long as he is getting a balanced diet that provides the nutrients he needs then it is a healthy diet. I am sure that the Assisted Living Community he is in has Nutritionist and Dietitions that can help. I would also suspect that he is not the only vegetarian.
I would be concerned if all he is getting is the vegetables that they are serving to everyone else and not making sure that he is getting the needed protein.
I would call and ask to consult with them to make shure that they have a good plan in place.
Bottom line, a vegetarian diet can be healthy if the proper guidelines are followed.
