Any suggestions on a local cook for my Dad?

I'm in another state, how do I find a local person to cook for my dad in Portland OR? My sister is closer but she wants nothing to do with dad or me for that matter.

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your sister, I know how difficult it is to coordinate care for someone who is in another state. You might try contacting the Meals on Wheels program in your Dad's hometown or the Area Agency on Aging in his area.

My mom was in Seattle, WA when I was trying to take care of her from Omaha. Just make a LOT of calls, is my suggestion. That's what I did. I think I started with the office of aging and then went from there. If you ask a lot of questions, then it can lead you to where you need to go. I got my mom a free caregiver for 6 months since she was unwilling to pay for one and in a very bad state of physical health. Meals on Wheels is a good one, but sometimes the food isn't great. There are other options like ordering Swanson's online. My mom's local grocery stores delivered, too. Here are some links for more info:

This was a big chance, but I did find my mom a great roommate in Seattle using craigslist. When I brought her to Omaha, I got her another great roommate through craigslist and the one after that stole from her. So, you could use craigslist to find a cook, but I suggest doing a background check. That roommate who stole had a history of it.
