A Note From Shelane
"I learned at a very young age how much I enjoy working with seniors and making a difference in their lives. We have so many choices when it comes to senior care and it can be an emotionally and physically exhausting process. My goal is to take a lot of the work out of it and provide the education, resources and tools you need to make the best choice for your loved one."

Reviews and Testimonials
"I really enjoyed working with Shelane. My father had traumatic brain injury and had many different needs. It was difficult to find a place for him to stay, within a certain location and to help assist with all of his needs. Shelane not only talked me through a different location for my father, but also followed up with me from time to time to make sure that things were still working out for him and us as a family... Very pleased with A Place for Mom." - Susan T.
"Shelane has been wonderful! I originally needed help with my mom in Illinois. Then, we needed Shelane's assistance with Paul's dad in Georgia. Shelane put us in touch with wonderful facilities and help groups in that locale AND followed up so well. She has been faithful about sending helpful articles and emails asking how we are and where we are in the process. I'm so thankful we've had Shelane to guide us!" - Susan and Paul Freeland
"Shelane was a godsend. Really. My mother-in-law was in a nursing home and it was clear that she would need assisted living care, but I didn't know how to get started. I was completely overwhelemed. It sounds cliche (especially since I work in advertising) - but I heard the 'Place for Mom' radio commercial, went on the website and was connected with Shelane. She provided great ideas, information and even support. She was also quick to respond, compassionate and understanding of my personal situation. I cannot tell you what a relief it was to have guidance, a cheerleader and someone else who seemed invested in finding the right solution for my mother-in-law. I tell all of my friends - if/when they find themselves in a similar situation that I will connect them with Shelane as I have every confidence in her and in A Place for Mom." - Dahlia H.
"Unexpectedly I found myself having to find an assisted living facility for my uncle, who had recently been diagnosed with dementia. I looked to friends for assistance, but every location I called was out of his price range. I was overcome with panic. I had very little time to react to this new situation that I found myself in. I remembered seeing a commercial for 'A Place for Mom' so I called on the way home one night from work while on the train. It was the best call I ever made.
The people there were understanding, reassuring and, most importantly, really helpful. I was connected to Shelane Barrett who was wonderful. By the time I arrived home that night, several referrals were waiting for me in an email. But their help did not stop there, they also contacted the facilities which, by the next day, had reached out to me. She remained with me through the entire process, checking on my progress as I decided on a location and offering more assistance.
My uncle is going to a wonderful location, with kind people who I know will make his remaining days happy and safe. I owe it all to Shelane. "A Place for Mom" proved to be a life saving group for people like me who are facing the unknown when caring for elderly loved ones. Lots of groups promise a lot but don't always live up to those promises. 'A Place for Mom' is really there for people like me, they exceeded all of my expectations. I will never be able to thank them enough."
