We are thrilled with our choice. Mom started in a respite apt after rehab. Now she is in her own apt and enjoying everything. The staff is amazing. We highly recommend the shores. The staff in every area are so attentive. They are responsive and communicative and do everything possible to ease the transition.

It has taken Mom time to adjust to no kitchen to really have to cook BUT all her meals are up at one of the dining rooms. She is finally going down to meals BIG adjustment NOW all good.
She loves that she doesn't have to call the family to come and fix things in the house. Now she calls the front desk or it is done for her without asking. This is a big relief for Mom.
If she gets lonely she walks to get her mail and talks to many people or she is just happy being in her own room. No real pressure to go out and makes her own timeline.
The family is SO happy with the Shores and the care is more than we all thought it was going to be. Staff is so understanding and listens to us but also Mom.
At 89 years old it is the right place for Mom and safe.

Our experience with United Methodist Communities
There are things they did really well with and things that I was disappointed with as well. My loved one needed more help than she was receiving here. If someone if healthy and independent and interacting, it is a fantastic place. But she needed more care than she was asking for. The nursing staff was lovely and friendly but I was not getting the help that I needed. Once we moved in we did not really get any guidance, I always had to ask for things. The staff really are lovely people and were doing the best that they could. I would definitely recommend them to someone who is more healthy.

The Most Fabulous Place
The Shores is a very special place within a very special organization. Loving, compassionate, personal care for everyone, no matter how challenging the circumstances. We cannot imagine a healthier, more caring place to navigate COVID than The Shores.

Child of parent in hospice
My mother has been on the 3rd floor for several months, through COVID. The care she is given has been exceptional. When she was placed into hospice care, she couldn’t go to that section and The Shores made sure she was given visitation rights and hospice care, even though she was on a floor that didn’t accept visitors. We planned daily visitors with [name removed] and my mom was able to have visitors daily. She is one of 7 so there were a lot of visitors. Her sibs, priest from the parish, best friend and child and granddaughter were all given access to visit my dear mom. Exceptional service and care!

Could Not Ask for a Better Experience
Although Dad is no longer with us, the assisted living care he received while at the Shores was outstanding. The staff was friendly, loving and very knowledgeable. Not everything was perfect, but then, nothing truly is. I would highly recommend The Shores if you are considering Assisted Living or any of the other services offered there. The cost is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I have been so impressed with the thoughtfulness, caring and attentiveness of all the staff , everyone makes my Mom feel welcomed and special.
Only downside are the meals. A more healthy, low salt, low sugar menu option would be greatly appreciated and valued.

Some good, some bad
Hiring part time contractor nurses to keep care costs down yielded Covid on to the 3rd floor nursing wards. There was no protocol for these individuals to ensure that the virus did not come into the building. Many loved ones died. My mother spent a long time in Shore Memorial Hospital and VERY NEARLY died.
Sept 18 2021 AL had one unvaccinated staff person test positive this past week. How the heck does this happen??? This on the new admin's watch.
The capital improvements are beautiful by the way (yes, that's sarcasm).

Our experience at the Shores
Everyone at the shores from the minute you walk in to when you leave Is extremely friendly. Everyone is always willing to help. My parents are very happy living at the shores. We feel like it’s a very safe & clean environment for them. We know they’re well taken care of. Originally, my parents were very unhappy moving from their home to an assisted living facility. It didn’t take long before they fell in love with the Shores community. They are so happy that they made the change to the Shores.

Care during Covid
I feel that when covid came my mother did not get the amount of care she needed. Yes you kept her safe but, because of the lockdown and quarantine, she needed more help and because I could not see her I didn’t know. In turn she went down hill and ended up in a hospice situation.
Once in hospice, we assumed she would get more care than she did, (and she did too, that is why she chose to live there in the first place, thinking she would be cared for when this time came) and because we could not help care for her because of covid, we had to hire outside people to get the care required. My family and my mother felt it was misrepresented.

The BEST place for our Mom
From the very beginning of our experience at the Shores everyone has been friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and great with our Mom. They speak to her as I believe they would speak to their own parents, softly and with respect.
When there was a misunderstanding about bills and payment the business office worked diligently with me to straighten everything out. It was a huge bonus since I live many states away from the facility .
I and my brothers are very happy with Moms care and how the staff does their best to keep us up to date with Moms progress and condition.
Overall The Shores has been a wonderful place for our Mom , giving me great peace of mind since I can not visit as often as I’d like due to distance.
I highly recommend The Shores for senior care of all stages. From independence to extra nursing care there is a place for everyone. Such peace knowing Mom never has to be moved.

So grateful
The Shores was already a great place, but I'm especially thankful for how well they've been able to stay on top of all the complications that Covid has brought over the past 18 months. They work tirelessly to give our loved ones the fullest life possible while also keeping everyone safe. We see you all going the extra mile!
My only 2 complaints are that the meals have gone downhill a bit and I see the front desk staff being not so patient with residents sometimes. I know it's a tough job but that could stand to improve.

Made a Difficult Time Much Harder
I would not recommend them to others. There was a lack of communication in regards to care for my loved one.
The people who were in charge were difficult to talk with. The nurses and aides were fantastic to talk with and helpful.

So, finally the thief or thieves have been caught! It’s about time, especially after you denied this was happening for a few years, and made the aged victims feel like idiots! Like they were imagining it!!! How demeaning!!!
I sure hope you are personally visiting each one of them to apologize and do everything possible to recover their valuables. Finally get security cameras in the hallways?

SHAME ON THE SHORES
My opinion of The Shores was validated after reading some of the reviews. To know that they have been short staffed since Jan 2017 SHAME ON THEM!!! To charge the price they charge and not provide the service they say because they are understaffed SHAME ON THEM!! For the price you have to pay and the service they say you will receive for that price could not be further from the truth!! The residents/patients do not receive the proper care that they are paying for. The nurses are good, PT good, but another VERY important department which is definitely understaffed and unprofessional are the Aids. No one should have to lay in their own mess because the aids can not get to them in time because they are understaffed. SHAME ON THEM!!! No aid should have to rush the elderly people that they are responsible for taking care of because The Shores is understaffed. SHAME ON THEM!! For the Shores not figuring out the solution to this problem since Jan2017 to present SHAME ON THEM!!!

An excellent home for our Mom, EXCELLENT!!!
I looked for a good home for my mom when it came time that my sister and I felt she should not live in her home alone. United Methodist Communities At The Shores Ocean City, NJ 2201 Bay Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226 is an excellent facility providing my mom with independence as well as a safe and very pleasing lifestyle. My sister and I are extremely happy with UMC The Shores facility and staff. If we could rate ten stars we would.

dont do it
My father broke his leg while on vacation and had to go into rehab for a short time until I could get him home. this was the worst experience for care that I have ever seen. They made him wear briefs when he was not incontinent because they were under staffed and did not want to be bothered with him. He was fully self sufficient prior to breaking his leg, they made him incontinent due to the ability to assist him when needed. I heard wonderful things about this facility years ago, I must say that I do believe they had a hand in his passing too soon. The physical therapy staff was very good all other care was horrible. I would not recommend this facility to anyone
