Looks fancy, but really it's not....
My mother moved to the Breakers in 2005, she lived there until she passed away, last Oct. '14.... When moving her furniture out, her place was cockroach infested, and, I'm talking cockroaches bouncing all over the place, it was disgusting. The care she was given was so so, after moving out of L.A. and only being able to visit her every few months, instead of daily, her weight dropped as in 40 lbs, putting, her below 100 lbs......she wan't checked on for eating, when she became to weak to go to the dinning room, they charged her every time she needed to eat, and apparently that wasn't often.... Her room, (300 sq ft) was $22,00. a month.......again, cockroach infested, when the facility was alerted to the problem they did nothing.....

Ghetto Trap
People need to know the truth, this is not slander, but my first hand experience. I moved my 84 yr. old mother into this residence, because it was close and at the time $2,000. They take you to the dining area which has a nice view, but the food is fish and chicken every day. The Skyroom is once a month and their food is nasty and overpriced, they served us cold bread and I had to talk to yheowner'sson for them to warm up the bread. My mom's brand new false teeth never found, nice jewelry stolen, poor care except for a few nice gals who left because they only pay minimum wage. The place is dirty, look at the hallways, staircases, gross. I found my mother on a number of occasions passed out, I took are of her daily, she always had UTI's, my mother is clean. Lawsuit city.

It was very big
It was very big, it was a long way from the room to the lunchroom. They charged for the laundry facilities. They offered us a break on the price to move in, but we had already found a better fit.

Very Expensive
His room was actually like a one bedroom, but it was very expensive for no extra care. It is a nice building, but it is not worth the cost. The care is minimal and that's basically why we had to leave. They advertise as assisted living, but they just provide food and laundry. Other than that, everything is extra.

This is an immaculate place...
This is an immaculate place with the setting of an old luxury hotel. But the downsize is that it feels like how is looks. The community rooms are empty and the residents were not in view. You see a few employees walking down the long and empty hallways, but the facility seems void of life. The old saying, 'just because something looks good' I could picture my mother staying in her room at this facility.

The contact person was Josh...
The contact person was Josh. He was excellent, friendly, courteous and well informed. The general lay out of the Breakers is not what I am looking for as it is largely single rooms with small windows or single rooms strung together; not planned apartment s[aces. The maintenance is very poor. I have poor eyesight but still noticed flaking paint, broken tiles, patches of dirt in corners. The upholstered furniture in the common areas was stained and glass display cases were very dirty. The only available exterior space allows smoking and I would not find that pleasant. There is no outside area for walking. Although the facility is adjacent to the ocean, ocean views are blocked by buildings. The food was good and varied but, again, poor housekeeping was evidenced by the fact the glass on the table was sticky. Elevator floor and walls were not clean and polished. Despite the heavy use of floral air freshners, some of the floors smelled of urine or general staleness. On the telephone, Dee Vollendorff was delightful and Josh, whom we met in person, could not have been nicer. However, I noticed that uniformed staff, whom we passed in hallways or on elevators, made no effort to be cordial. Since such people would be the housekeepers and actual care-givers, their lack of interest in visitors raised another red flag and perhaps explained the indifferent housekeeping. I would rate the property 3 stars because of the poor housekeeping and poor floor plans.

Not much I can say except terrific. Perfect location and very affordable with the VA 1644 and help from her savings/investments/condo. Any of my final 4 would be good in that regard. Spotless, friendly, both studios small but the 1 BR about the same size as her present condo.Little more expensive for doable with her savings/condo/vet. Pets welcome. Visiting pets welcome. Excellent downtown location.

Love the physical design details and setting of the building. The multiple large open rooms for activities were nice. Good proximity to other community activities. Decent price for unassisted care. Rooms have great views.

Change linen 1X week Must do own laundry and do own meds. I was SO impressed. The rooms are small but the facility is great. The eating area is buffet so Dad could eat all he wanted to. They have a beautiful outside area and inside. Clean. Laundry room but free and TV room next to it. Really nice. Must provide own furniture and if shared...must be twin bed. We can start with a shared room and if that does not work out we will see what we can do....
