Great Tour at the Rose Garden
After touring with {name removed} the Marketing Director I have decided to move my mother into the Rose Garden. I really liked how the community was laid out and the studio apartment was more than enough space for her. The residents also seemed to enjoy hanging out with each other in the living room.

Ask more questions before moving in
This facility has been ok, but not great. It's very clean and always smells pleasant. Our main issue is communication. Prior to move in and during that initial process, communication was great. The financial person was very friendly and responsive. Once we moved mom in, that stopped. I'm not local, so a line of communication is so important. I don't even know who to talk to about updates on mom and her care. I can't get a return call or any guidance from them about who to talk to. I'm not sure what pharmacy they use, if she's getting her medication, or even if her blood pressure is being monitored like it's supposed to be. Communication was really terrible during the hurricane. The residents were evacuated quickly and told not to bring any personal belongings (clothes, toothbrush, etc) and that all would be provided to them. They were relocated for 5 days and nothing was provided to them. Including a change of clothes and toothbrush. I will say, we were notified that they were evacuating, but that was it. No follow up information or updates. This facility isn't even 5 years old, I guess I just assumed they had a generator. I didn't ask that prior to move in and I should have. Based on our experience so far, I don't think I'd recommend them to friends and family. We're actually considering moving her to a different place. My advice would be to do your homework, with any place you're considering.

I am pleased with you staff members; the marketing person is delightful, the receptionists are effective, helpful, and pleasant. I respect and am impress with many other workers there. Overall, I would give this community high marks. One major exception would be the nurse in this facility. In my every contact with her, she has been critical and defensive with me. In my last visit to her office, there was no greeting, pleasant or otherwise, did not appear interested in why I was there, and complained the entire time about the inefficiency of the computer program she was working on and the obtuse personnel with whom she was connecting online. She never mentioned my purpose, or assured me of her attention to it, and I beat a hasty retreat. I am told the facility bus has been parked in the lot for months and is not working. The screening form requires four signature on the same form, plus requiring a printed name as well. Even the date must be entered several times. To avoid so much repetition, how about requiring initials for each section and only one signature or date? It would be wonderful if you could address any of these issues. Thank you for this opportunity to provide my opinions and observations about your staff members. I am grateful for their courtesies.

The place itself is ok. It is in a secure neighborhood. I would tell others just to be careful because it is in a flood zone, especially for hurricanes.

A GREAT place to be
The Rose Garden of Fort Myers is a great place to be. They offer assisted living and memory care support. The staff is compassionate and caring about their residents. I have toured this community and paid attention to a few different things. I have not noticed a bad odor in any of the hallways. We all know accidents happen but they are on top of it. The rates are affordable and they offer tons of amenities. Another great thing is that they take the Medicaid program. Not too many communities accommodate residents on the Medicaid program any longer. I would highly recommend touring this community if you are exploring senior living options.

A Caring and Friendly Atmosphere
My Dad has lived here for two years. He is always clean and well fed. The activities provided keep him alert and active with other residents. I feel like I am visiting everyone when I sit in the lobby, Staff and Residents alike. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. He especially likes the visiting pets that inspire him to recall his own pets over his lifetime. I am comforted in knowing that Dad is safe and cared for more completely than I could find anywhere else.

NOT FOR YOUR LOVE ONE
Rose Garden Fort Myers unit. If you want a loving caring place for your loved ones with adequate medical care in my opinion the Rose garden is not the place. The following is my opinion of the experience of the worst year of my life in 68 years. This is from [dates removed]. I have had several bad years in my lifetime. But this time that I spent at the Rose garden has been the worst year of my life ever. A little bit about myself I am retired US Air Force Master Sergeant Medic worked 11 years in Emergency Rooms. So, I know a lot about Medicine. This place does not provide adequate medical care in my opinion. They cannot even give a shot or take a simple blood sugar for a diabetic. [name removed] is the so-called charge nurse. She is an LVN licensed vocational nurse aka licensed practical nurse LPN not A RN registered nurse she does not have the education. On several occasions she has embarrassed me by telling me that I stink in front of other staff and in front of other residents. I do have cancer, and this causes a particular odor and she's insulting me and making me feel bad. When I first became a resident [name removed] lied to me and my family. She told us that C pap machines were not allowed at all. After researching it the state law says that with a physician’s order C pap machines are to be allowed in all assisted living facilities. I got a letter from my VA doctor stating that I was to be able to use my C pap machine. [name removed] decided that this letter was not good enough and would and denied me the use of my C pap machine. I have severe sleep apnea and I'm five times more likely to die in my sleep than a person without severe sleep apnea. I do not get deep sleep or REM sleep and I have been deprived of it for a whole year because of [name removed]'s actions. I put in a complaint with The Agency for Healthcare Administration AHCA and this really made her mad. Her aggressive behavior even showed more. I got a letter from my doctor stating that I was to administer my own insulin because I'm a diabetic. She did not like me doing this and at her first opportunity she stopped me from administering my own insulin. In doing so I had to hire a home health nurse RN registered nurse to come in and give me insulin injections. She had a nurse practitioner overwrite a doctor's order and changed my insulin from twice a day to once a day and changed the amount that I was receiving. This caused me to have higher blood sugar averages and changed my A1C dramatically. She is overstepping her bounds as an LVN. This was also in my acca complaint. By doing this it also took away my testing supplies so if I was getting into a condition where I was severely low, I could go into a diabetic coma due to her actions. I do not detect severe slow lows until I'm under 60% which is quite low for blood sugars. If you run out of a medication on a Friday afternoon you will not receive that medication until sometime on Monday. This has happened to me several times. They should be able to get the medications on the weekend instead of letting residents do without important medications. They need to establish a protocol to do this . Some other medications nowadays have adverse effects even if you stop taking him for one or two days they should not it jeopardize patients health in this way.

UNACCEPTABLE CARE
My Mom was a resident here. The worst mistake of my life. MOST of The STAFF THAT CARED are gone. It's for independents only, because there is very little assistance. My husband says he hopes no one ever asks his opinion of this place. The majority of her belongings began to disappear, I caught one staff member in the act of the theft. Her brand new set of towels that my husband purchased for her are gone. She caught COVID-19 from her roommate. Her physician wrote her a prescription for an "all natural" supplement, NRF2, listed in the Physicians Desk Reference, just like Vitamin D. Which, when she was getting it helped immensely!! Then she started having the falls. No one ever notified me that she was out of the 'prescribed' supplement, until I called the company & was informed no product had been shipped since February. Then because of all those falls she was labeled as needing Maximum Assistance, disqualifying her for a much desired ASL Facility. IF THEY DON'T FOLLOW DOCTOR's ORDERS, What else won't they do? TOTALLY UNNECESSARY & UNACCEPTABLE CARE!!!

A good place for Dad
This was the first place I had my dad. It was not perfect but it was better than others I have seen in the area. The staff was good , activities were good. It was a clean place. The staff was helpful and they were very responsive. The only reason he left is because he got an infection. I would move him back there if I could.

Well kept community
Rose Garden is a very well kept community. My brothers and I visited 5 communities in the area before choosing Rose Garden for my mom. Rose Garden was the nicest one we saw. They have an very friendly staff. Pricing was the best of the ones we toured. The community has a nice layout and the room sizes are comparable to what we had seen. We had to move my mom because she needed memory care and the community she was at did not offer memory care.

about Rose Garden of Fort Myers

A Place for Mom has scored Rose Garden of Fort Myers 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.

  • Confirm that the community offers services that are required for the senior’s specific needs and budget
  • Check additional licensing and state audit information

If you become aware of any information that should be updated or noted, please contact A Place for Mom. A Place for Mom uses the term “assisted living” to indicate that the community provides some level of assistance with daily living activities. It does not indicate that the facility meets official state requirements for level of care.
