About the facility
Normandy Park Assisted Living

Normandy Park Assisted Living is a privately owned senior living community with a welcoming atmosphere. This community is located in the small town of Normandy Park, Washington, and seniors can enjoy a quaint lifestyle while residing within miles of the large city activities in Seattle.

Whether residents need assisted living or memory care services, the community offers quality care for both. Round-the-clock caregivers and a registered nurse provide personalized care ranging from medication management to assistance with activities of daily living. The community offers additional health services with specialized care like audiology. The community also helps residents attend local medical appointments with on-site transportation services. Throughout the community are emergency response systems, which help residents receive urgent care quickly.

While receiving consistent care, residents live on site and have access to various amenities, as well as activities. Residents can choose between private and semi-private living accommodations, with studio and one-bedroom apartment options. These pet-friendly apartments include safety features like roll-in showers. When residents are not relaxing in their rooms, they can enjoy luxurious amenities, such as the beauty salon and barbershop, spa, and serene courtyard. Residents can then socialize in the restaurant-style dining room, where meals are served three times a day....

Review for Normandy Park Assisted Living
It was a good experience overall. They seemed more homey & caring than the other facilities as well as being a bit smaller & less overwhelming for my Dad.They are currently experiencing a lot of turnover, especially with the kitchen staff. I'm sure this is an industry issue, but it has affected the quality of meals they are currently receiving.

Hi Lisa, Thank you for your review! We did go through a change in the kitchen. However, we have already hired an amazing Culinary Director who's top priority is quality, presentation and Resident's overall experience. He is a wonderful addition to our team! I would love to have you attend a meal service so you can experience the positive change! We have a comped guest ticket for you at the front desk when you are ready to join us! Best Regards, Sarah McComb

Nice facility, friendly staff.
Mom was well taken care of. We are very thankful that your people were able to make her last days comfortable. For the most part, everything was clean. I was disappointed to find the brand new sheets I'd ordered for her stuffed into the closet and she was still on the same ones, which were left on the bed after she died and smelled like pee. We were also very disappointed to find that Mom had COVID when we visited the last time (late August), and no one bothered to mention it! Luckily none of the family we visited afterward (or us) came down with it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rating for meals is Unknown, as I was not present during meals, and the rating for activities is unknown, as she did not participate. It was very expensive, but I have nothing to compare it to.

Needs Improvement
The friendliness of staff is a tough one because the staff turn over is so high it's hard to make bonds with the staff. I guess I would say overall okay depending on who it is. However the food is TERRIBLE! For the amount of money that my parents pay to stay there, the food is low quality and just not good. Turnover with the cooks has also been a problem. Again, turnover of activities director/coordinator has been a problem. Limited actives. Activity room is too small for a large amount of residents to be able to participate. Families are not informed of activity schedule in order to assist and remind our parents of the activities. The staff doesn't make the effort to go ask the residents to join. I think if they went door to door, or did an announcement on facility wide speakers, they would have more residents join in. This facility needs ALOT of improvement!

Our families experience
While our loved one a resident there, they were secluded. She ate by herself, there were not activities, they did not have staff there and they staff they did have were rude and not friendly. We would not recommend this community. Our loved one would spit out the food because it was so bad. We would also have to walk around the entire community to hunt down the staff if we needed something and it was really expensive.

Finally a good place
He is getting very good care here, they are just wonderful and by far the best that I have seen. The food seems very good and the snacks that they provide are varied. The staff are great with communication and they keep me well informed if there are any questions or concerns. The set up is really nice for the residents and they are able to interact with each other. This is the only facility that I have seen that I would recommend to others.

Efficient and Professional
It's a secure community where you sign in and out. They really put a good effort in with activities, even considering Covid. They still do exercises, bingo, a community walk, anything they can do with social distancing. When my loved one had an injury and couldn't participate in activities, the director spent several half hour sessions with her visiting and talking with her. I know she must be very busy, so I really appreciated her taking the time out of her day for my loved one. The rest of the staff pop in early to say hi to her. I just want to hug them. The staff is great. I think it's a great value here. The residents get three meals a day, and there's a snack/beverage station available. All utilities are paid except for phone service. They clean once a week and then deep clean once or twice a year. They offer activities, as well as some other services you can pay for so you don't have to go out. There's no yard upkeep. I would say that's a pretty good deal. It's not as expensive as some people may think. It can be affordable, and I would recommend that people get long term care insurance if they can. That's helped us a lot.

It has been a good family experience all the way around
The staff members have been great, and for the most part our loved one is very happy there. Everything so far has been good, and we are having a good experience with the nursing staff especially during the pandemic. The food could use some improvement, but the value for cost is manageable.

Things to look for in shopping for assisted living
Recently, the director has given her resignation. She hasn't said why, but I suspect it's because of management of the facility, because there's been a shortage of staff. Staff have actually mentioned that they're working overtime several days a week because there isn't enough help. Some meals that are delivered to the rooms are being missed. The response time to the pull cord calls after about 5:30 in the evening throughout the night is a horrible turn-around time. In my opinion, that should be the prime time for response, because a call during that time means something is wrong. But 45 minutes to an hour is not uncommon. On the good side, things are opening up a little. The lady who runs the hair shop opened her shop up again last week, so all the women are happy they can get their hair done again. Cleanliness is good - I've not noticed anything I would not want to see when I go in. They come around once a week to clean the apartments, and they come around once a day to empty the garbage. They could be a little better about window tracks and stuff like that - they tend to stick and are hard to open. But in general it's pretty good.

Very grateful to have my dad here during the pandemic
We chose Normandy Park Senior Living because of recommendations, the location, and it just felt clean and pleasant when you walk in. The room sizes here are adequate, plenty for his needs. I have eaten here and the food was fine, they do have a menu with variety. I would recommend and we have been very grateful to have my dad here during the pandemic.

Lovely, Clean Place to Live
It is a very nice place to live. It is a great location, it is close, within walking distance, to restaurants, shopping and other amenities. They also have a bus to take you places. The food is fine, not wonderful but it is okay. They have a nice area out back with a fountain for residents to use. They keep the outside well manicured, plenty of places to walk a pet. They do try to accommodate resident requests.

The studio apartments are actually pretty big
There didn’t seem to be many people around when we took our tour. The residents that we did see were in the lobby, not talking, and it seemed like they were just parked there. However, we found out it was so empty because they had taken most of the residents to a Mariners game. The staff was very, very nice and the landscaping outside was wonderful. The inside was clean and the rooms they showed us were actually really nice too. They were studios but they were really big and bright. It was definitely a place that we could see Mom living in but the location itself just wasn’t ideal.

A Place for Mom has scored Normandy Park Assisted Living 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
