A comfortable and caring home
I looked at many adult family homes before choosing Elle's. I was impressed by the comfortable, homey environment and the positive warmth of Elle herself and the staff, Abi and Luciana. The home is in the Matthews Beach neighborhood and sits above Lake Washington, with a view from the second floor. There is a deck on the lake side of the house, that is pleasant on a warm day. The home is very clean and feels peaceful. Each resident has her own bedroom. Meals are homemade from scratch and Elle responds to special requests for the menu. On a typical day, residents are in recliner chairs in the living room, watching the big screen tv, reading, knitting or doing other activities. The staff is attentive to their needs. Elle is very knowledgeable and conscientious about caring for this population and I feel lucky to have found this home for my mother.

Will try to transfer patiient to ER at end of life
My father was at Elles Adult Family Home for 3 years. The facility is fine and the care givers are good. I felt we had made the right choice until my father was ready to die. He was on palliative care measures and we were waiting for a hospice intake appointment. My father had late stage alzheimer's disease, and had trouble swallowing. When he spit up some applesauce, Elle had a caregiver call 911. The paramedics saw no emergent situation and thankfully called us and let his family refuse his transport to the emergency room. After speaking with medical personnel, I learned that some AFHs try to transfer patients to die at hospital to avoid the extra hassle and paperwork.
My dad passed away at the AFH 2 days later.
When we chose this AFH, we expected and were assured that he could end his life in a home like setting. I didn't expect that emotions of loss and mourning would be mixed with feelings of betrayal. ??
