My 80 year old Brother is having a Great Experience at Dominion Village Assisted Living
The Staff at Dominion Village Williamsburg are professional. I always stay in touch with them. We had an excellent move in experience. The cleanliness and friendliness are great. The meals are good. You can order off of the Choice menu if you don't like what they are serving. They make a Beautiful Chef Salad. The housekeeping is on point. I would recommend Dominion Village Williamsburg for an excellent Assisted Living.

Happy With Our Choice
Dominion Village has been great - we're very happy with them. It's a smaller facility without much resident turnover. The staff were very kind and accommodating with move-in and getting my loved one settled. They keep the facility clean and are very careful with Covid precautions. We've had a few issues here and there with the care, which really just depends on the aide (some are better than others). Some of the top level administrative staff have left, so I'm not sure what's going on there. But we haven't had any problems so far. My loved one thinks the food is terrible, but I think it looks okay. I think she's just used to homecooked meals. Overall we're very happy with Dominion Village. And I would recommend them to other families in the area.

I do not recommend this facility.
Simply poor quality of everything. Had a tour. Executive Director talked about so highly about everything in the community. But nothing matches about what she said. Rusty, dirty, smelly! Resident did not have hoof grooming. Lunch served without care. No gloves! It was disturbing. I do not recommend this facility.

Feels like home
What has really impressed us is that the staff know our loved one by name, they know our family by name and ultimately our loved one just feels at home here. We really like the smallness of the community all of the residents have been great and the staff member's have been wonderful. We do not have experience with the meals or dining service so we cannot rate it but we assume it is good. Based on our experience with the Dominion Village Williamsburg we would recommend this community to other families.

Highly recommend
It is a smaller facility so the staff really get to know their residents. They are very responsive when you call and when you have an questions or concerns they address it. The staff is somewhat available at all times, there is always someone to talk to. They are all so friendly and we have nothing bad to say. We have had a great experience and I would highly recommend to others looking.

My review of Dominion Village at Williamsburg ( Five Star Senior Living )
Our family was able to have an in person tour, we weren't able to have a meal so were not sure about the food, but the staff did seem mostly friendly. visibly we could see challenges with their maintenance team. The apartment living situation seemed barren and not the best fit for our loved one. It was one room with a shared bathroom.

Tour of Dominion Village
We toured Dominion Village and it was a very nice facility. It is 2 stories so she would have had to use the stairs or elevator all the time which would have been hard. Also, this was during covid and people were going in and out all of the time so we had some reservations. They had a memory care unit but it was not attractive.

Senior Nightmare
To avoid it at all costs. They neglected my mother and had to move her. They didn't match her clothes, they let her sit in her diaper om a wheelchair, and it was just terrible. The didn't clean her hair, and she was so bad. We reported it and there was retribution. This caused a bunch of hostile. High turnover in staff. They had hospice coming in to check in on her to give her bath. They were the ones who reported this and they were shocked to see how she was being treated. One day we found her with a black eye and no one knew what happened. It turned out she fell, but no one called us and the investigation took two days. She had dementia and there was no way for her to tell us what was happening to her.

Keep away!
I cannot warn people away from this facility enough. We were told that they provided dementia care and would call in hospice when it became necessary. Their physician blocked our wishes and prevented it. They only handed out the necessary paperwork piecemeal and in fact we did not sign or receive a copy of the contract until we moved our mother out at their insistence. She suffered several bad falls and also hospitalization for dehydration under their “care”.

I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for speaking with me the other day. It is our goal to exceed expectations for all our residents and their families, and we are sorry this was not your experience. Hearing your concerns first hand was very helpful to me and we will use that input to help improve the services we provide in all situations, in particular in those cases where a resident needs to move out because they need a higher level of care. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything else I can do for you or your family.

Good care and value
We toured several facilities in the area trying to find an appropriate placement for my 91 year- old mother. Since she has Dementia, we were focused on Memory Care facilities. There were some lovely places with beautiful gathering areas, large bedrooms and bathrooms. Some provided transportation to appts. and even an aide, if desired. But the prices were such that we were worried my mother's money wouldn't last for the rest of her life. Then we checked out Dominion Village. It is an older facility, so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer places. The bedrooms are small. Most of them have a bathroom that you share with the resident next door, or you can pay a little more and get one of the rooms with a private bathroom. When we met with the director, she explained that since my mother still had good social skills, did not wander, or was not a danger to herself, she could be placed on the assisted living side in lieu of the memory care side. Not only is it less expensive, but she is with people who can provide her with good social experiences. In the end, we realized what was most important for my mother was not the "look good" features of the expensive places(she is not going to use a pool table, or sit in the spacious living room next to the gas fireplace anyway), but a clean place where she could get three good meals and some help with dressing, assistance in the bathroom, and with getting around. So we went with Dominion Village. We opted to pay a little extra for a room with a private half bath; she is rolled down the hall to the beautiful shower room (there is also a walk-in tub available). A twin bed fits the best. It allows for a comfy chair, some side tables, and a chest of drawers without the room seeming cramped. The staff is very friendly; all went out of their way to make my mother feel welcome. Since the facility is small, they soon know all the residents and what strategies work best for each. I rated the care as good, not great, because no one is going to be able to care for my mother as well as I did while she lived at home. She was my sole patient. But the caregivers try their best to provide the best care possible for their residents.

Excellent care
My 91 year old Mom has resided at Dominion Village of Williamsburg for a year and a half. She began in Assisted Living and transitioned into Memory Care. I have been very happy with Mom's care. The staff know their residents. They know their habits, quirks, needs and personalities. They also get to know the family. Deirdre, Jessica and Yolanda are excellent leaders. And they are always accessible. My Mom qualified for their WWII widow discount, which was very helpful. There are always choices for meals and the meals are good and served on time. Rooms are kept clean. There are also activities appropriate for the age and condition of the resident. I feel very fortunate to have found Dominion Village for Mom.

[Removed] was very personable and made us feel more comfortable about considering assisted living for my mother. Dominion is small, giving it an intimate feeling. It appears it also allows them some flexibility with patient's needs. The place is not new, but [Removed] is working hard to update the building and furnishings. The rooms are not large, but adequate for our needs. The bathroom would have to be modified to meet my mother's needs, or she could be taken to the large shower or tub room. That's not great, but not a deal breaker. Someone stopped us as we gathered on the front porch and told us he was very happy with the care his own mother was receiving here. This made us happy to hear. We are definitely considering this place for my mother.

A good community.
Mom is still adjusting to living at this community. The staff have been helpful and we have good communication with them. They offer good healthy meal options. The community is safe and I could not ask for more than that. This is the cleanest well represented community in the area and I would recommend it.

The staff has been great and they are very very helpful. They make sure that my loved one has everything needed for a good transition. The only thing that I would change is that the staff does not offer the variety of activities to my loved one. I would like to see my loved one more active. The meals are wonderful and healthy options and portions.

A Place for Mom has scored Dominion Village Williamsburg 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
