Elderwood Village at Colonie welcomes seniors and their pets to an intimate assisted living adult home spread across over seven acres of landscaped grounds. Wildlife regularly visits the quiet community’s campus in Latham, New York.
This adult home provides services in assisted living while seniors reside in the single-story, brick building. Round-the-clock care, which may include assistance with activities of daily living and medication management, is provided by trained caregivers and nursing staff. In addition to daily assistance, the community has a wellness program that includes therapies, exercises, and home safety tips. Safety is important at Elderwood Village at Colonie, which is why each of the 91 private bedrooms include features like emergency call systems and walk-in showers.
While maintaining residents’ safety, the community has a variety of secured amenities where residents can participate in daily activities. The community features an arts and crafts studio, a chapel, a beauty salon, a library, and more. Great Experience
I needed Respite Care quickly and desperately for my brother. Elderwood was right there to help and made us very comfortable during a very stressful time. Clean, comfortable and amazing staff. Highly recommend them!

warm, welcoming community
The only issue I would mention is that upon acceptance of our friend as a resident, at the last minute we were told we needed to have an internal med dr and someone to manage her psych meds in place before she would be allowed to move in. As she was moving from NJ to Albany NY, it was a scramble to get those in place. Other than that, we have found the staff warm, helpful and interested in our friend's care. We've been very happy with Elderwood.

our loved one is much happier than what we thought she would be
my mom is happy at Elderwood Village. she likes living in this community and enjoys her time here; I would recommend it to others. we initially had a small hiccup in the beginning when processing her paperwork and it did take us a while to get to the bottom of it, but it has since been resolved. as my mom's health and mobility strengthens, she is able to participate in more activities, which is a plus. while she could not engage in physical activity, the community had non-mobile things such as bingo. our loved one is much happier than what we thought she would be. several friends and extended family members have commented on her wellbeing and says she seems to be in a good space.

A Pleasant Place to Stay
I haven't found a better place around. If anybody wanted to go to a place for assisted living, I would highly recommend Elderwood Village at Colonie. It's so easy to get along with everybody there. The food looks delicious. They always have stuff going on. They have a big white board where my loved one can see what's going on every day. And if she's hesitant to participate, the caregivers will say "Come on, let's go try this!" It's the best bang for the buck you can possibly find. We visit about twice a week, and it's very peasant there. There's nothing I can say that's wrong with the place. The only thing that would make the whole thing easier is if I didn't have to fill out the Covid slips when I go in to visit. But I understand the need for them, and I very much appreciate that they're keeping everybody safe.

The staff members would be a 10 they were outstanding and the care services were terrific. They were always keeping in touch with us making us aware of everything going on. They would send out constant emails of things they were trying to do, and they did their best with the activities. We were very pleased with them they took very good care of our loved one.

The staff does a great job and is very energetic. They would list what activities could be done in your room and they would give them a package the next morning. The community had a good plan for covid and kept the residence safe. The community had a barber and a little general store you could buy from. I would recommend this community to others.

Great experience so far
We chose Elderwood Village at Colonie because of the cleanliness of the facility and for what it provided. They do provide a lot of activities for the residents. The rooms were nice size and it is all on one floor. They have great with communication, they send us a weekly letter and if anything happens they immediately call us. I would absolutely recommend them.

Elderwood Village At Colonie
I have always seen the community clean and there has been no problems. The staff is very good. The nurses do a good job of communicating with us about our loved one's care. If there is anything my aunt needs, they make sure to give us a call. They have had a lot of activities in the past and frequently post them online. The price is not cheap but it seems fair given the level of care.

Respite stay at Colonie Brookdale
Colonie Brookdale was a convenient location but the facility is old and needs a desperate updating. The admission was process was easy and staff is all efficient kind and friendly.
The rooms are very small. Linens are old and outdated and the towels and wash cloths were like sandpaper.
My father did not care for the food there either.
We chose Brookdale as we were told he would receive more rehab there but it took 2 weeks before the agency they use for PT to get paperwork in order. He was only there for a 4 week respite stay.
All in all he is doing well now in a Senior retirement community and we are glad he was able to get stable during his stay at Brookdale.

At first glance Brookdale seems like an expensive dream come true for your loved one. When you take the "tour" all staff is called to arms, all residents are gathered in the common room or other areas in the facility engaged with staff, and staff & residents are engaged in activities, the facility is spotless, daily menu's, passed & future outside activities, stimulation activities (since this is an Alzheimer assisted living facility) and general care are discussed. Sounds great, right??
I would suggest making random visits. Maintenance staff takes days to address issues (if at all), 4 care givers on staff at any given time (when you can find them), activities not the staff/resident engagement presented during tour & management shows interest in your concerns but does not address them.
My family member has been here for over a year, his room is always dirty, sink unusable, he is rarely groomed/bathed, medical issues and injuries not addressed, toiletries never replenished (toilet paper) and 2 costly resident fee increases, this last one for "grooming expense" which is funny since a family member had personally had to do that each visit due to the lack thereof.
Though this facility is better then some out there, the cost does not represent the care.

Good Experience, Tour Was A Good One
This a lovely community, and my tour of it was a nice one. The community looked great from what we saw. Everyone was very friendly to my family, and I. The staff we came across was nice, and helpful. Our questions were answered, and the experience went well overall.

Nice Experience, Pleasant Tour
I had a good tour of this community. It is a nice community with kind people. The only issue we had were that the room they showed us were small. The layout of the community was similar to a college dorm. The experience went well, and everyone was nice. However I did find a community that suited our needs better.

Very happy with Brookdale Colonie
My aunt has been there since December and has been doing good. We started looking at places because she was not safe to be at home and she didnt want to live with family. She is doing more now than she was at home. She goes on trips and attends the happy hour. The facillity does the cleaning and manages her doctors appointments. She is making alot of friends as well. One of my aunt friends needed a facility as well and we encouraged them to consider Brookdale.

No a bad community
Mom does not like the food at this community. She has only been there a few weeks and so far the staff have been great. They are encouraging mom to participate in some of the daily activities. Mom did say she thinks they are understaffed and they can not seem to keep staff members. The community seems clean and well taken care of.
