Not what it seems
I'd say it was not good, they talk a good game but do not follow through on any promises and we chose it because it's a nice property and we believed their story.

Would recommend
The Cove at Marsh Landing is going through some high turnover rate with their staff team, however the staff that are working there are great. They are so personable and they know exactly who I am and who my loved one is. The medication management and consistency could be a little bit better when it comes to filling the prescriptions. When you break it down, it really overall is a great place and our loved one is having a great time there. There are so many activities that half the time when I call he is not available because he is off doing something. They have social happy hours, they play bingo and he enjoys playing pool. They also have movie nights as well a trivia throughout the week. There is a bus that the residents can use for transportation back and forth from the local shopping center - however its been broken down for about a month. For the amount of money the residents are paying, it would be nice if they could use that transportation system.

Would not recommend until they fix the shortfalls. Facility has great potential.
The communication between staff is less than adequate, and staffing shortages make things worse. Common areas were clean, but weekly cleaning of her unit isn't always consistent. People all seem pleasant and helpful, and my loved one hasn't mentioned anything negative EXCEPT the understaffed issues. The food is less than appetizing and is often overcooked. Many people leave their meals, as the meat is too dried out and tough for them to chew. Because there hasn't been adequate staffing since before my loved one moved in, the care staff has to work as wait staff, and I believe she just mentioned the activities person is now cooking as they lost kitchen staff. Also the meal times are too restrictive. Breakfast is early, and dinner is early so that's not a long time between dinner and lunch. Luckily she can microwave stuff, if she has groceries. Their transportation bus has been out of commission now for 3-4 weeks and counting. No transport for doctors or banking or shopping, nor any activity outings. I had high hopes for the place given our tour, compared to other places we toured. I believe she said they are upping the care fee considerably, when the care she needs is minimal. If they work out the many issues they have with managing the place, it could be much better.

Friendly and welcoming
They are understaffed and so sometimes in our opinion things seem a little frantic but we do know everyone is suffering with staffing. We do really like just how friendly everyone is. We also like how they organize the meals in an excellent way - if someone is not feeling their best they come bring the meals to their rooms and take care of them. They do have a lot of different activities available which is great.

A Comfortable Home Away From Home
The community is very good. I do feel the monthly rate is expensive for what we are paying for. The cleanliness of my loved one's room leaves a lot to be desired. The staff are very nice to work with though. It would be nice to make sure that the cleaning of the room and laundry of my loved one's items could be done more on a regular basis. The family is having to having to bring this to the community staff's attention on occasion. It would be nice to have the staff just clean the room, and not ask the resident permission to come in to clean the room. They were able to assist with getting my loved one furniture for their room and this was very much appreciated. My loved one feels that items are being stolen from them and we are working on a solution to see if this is true.

Assisted living might be ok, but memory care was not good
My father was on the memory care unit and we were just not impressed. I don't think my his room was ever cleaned. I wasn't there everyday, but did visit often and it was never clean when I went. He never looked well groomed/shaved or taken care of as far as hygiene. After he passed and we went to get his belongings, his room looked untouched, other than the bed being stripped. The TV was still on, it smelled, there were soiled diapers still in the room (which we weren't aware they were even using), and it was just awful. They also assured us that his rate would be pro rated since we'd paid the full month and that we would be refunded the difference. After several calls and emails, I finally got a response that the check was in the mail, but I still haven't received it. We asked that they not give him chicken because he didn't like it, but witnessed them serve him chicken several times. My son works in the food industry and hated the food. He visited often and would comment every time on the poor quality. They seemed to be understaffed and the quality of the staff they did have was not great. The assisted living side seemed to be much better from what I witnessed. I actually have a friend with a loved one on that side and they are happy with it. I would recommend possibly the assisted living side, but not memory care.

Our Experience
It's a very nice facility. The residents seem to be happy. You do have to stay on top of the staff to make sure things get done. The meals and dining is nice, my loved one enjoys the variety of choices offered. The activities are good. My loved one enjoys their movie night, happy hour at 330pm, outings to do some shopping, as well as arts and crafts. The only issue seems to be medication management.

A Place Where They Will Take Of Your Loved One
It is a nice place, and the people are good. There are sometimes qualms over staffing during the pandemic. There is sometimes a lack of follow through by the staff. They have restaurant dining. If a resident doesn't like what is being served, you can pick from a stand alone menu. The staff are friendly in the dining room. The dining is very clean. The outdoor area is wonderful. They allow dogs on premises. The community ensures that caretakers and families see their loved one, and accommodate this request. The housekeeping in the rooms could be improved, along with billing.

Incompetent and uncaring medical staff .
The Cove residence is a hotel style living experience. Nice apartments and good food. Representation I was given by the staff there when setting up for my friend to live there did not live up to what actuality was. The most important thing to my friend is religion and I was assured that they would have Sunday programs and weekday religion study groups. This has not occurred and has depressed my friend and other residents very much. But this is not the reason I give a bad review. It is because of the medical staff there. [Name removed] is the medical director and she is incompetent, uncaring, unfeeling and a liar. I have found very poor medical care there which is what we requested and needed for the resident. They do not answer questions. They do not check on residents. And they do not have proper equipment there. I have even had our healthcare representative try to contact them and no one follows up or responds to her.I would not advise anyone to take up residence here.

Absolutely beautiful facility, inside and out. Staff is both professional and friendly. What really helped make my final decision was the longevity of the staff in their memory care unit. This is a great sign and puts me at ease knowing that the same people would be helping my grandmother daily. They also are very accommodating and want to make your loved one feel at home by allowing them as much of their own personal touch.

Home away from Home
I was a resident at Ashton Court for the month of March, my experience with staff and tenants was met with total satisfaction and for the brief period I was there, I was engaged, enlightened and quite impressed with not only the apartment, but the desserts, cocktail hour and the staff who was always very pleasant; warm and embracing, making my transition as easy as possible. The culinary aspect of my stay was quite considerate; as it was healthy and well balanced. I’d like to take The opportunity to thank [name removed], for her insight, dedication and warmth, while settling me in for the month. Thank you for your warmth and kindness, [Name removed]

Very accommodating staff. They were very attentive to my parents needs. We are awaiting their ADL assessment. Overall the facility was clean and the residents we spoke with shared favorable experiences. The one bedroom apartments were on the small side but we will be comparing them to others. The community is still in the running based on a number of positives including proximity to where we live. Best, [Name removed]and [Name removed] on behalf of my parents.

A Place for Mom has scored The Cove at Marsh Landing 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
